  1. What's the chances of getting scrolling notifications when the icon is set to information?

Nice update, ss has came a long way.

    1. I cannot understand exactly your question. Would you explain it again?
And now I'm fully rewriting the next generation of ssLauncher. I think it will take 3~4 months to release.

    2. Hey!

There aren't many things to improve in this almost perfect launcher.

But do you have any news about an update? Like a teaser :)

  2. The BEST launcher! Great work! May I ask for some new features though? If you look at this home screen which I built for someone using a different launcher: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v485/Jimrin/Assets/Android/launcherscreen_zpsb7595512.png

The features I would need to use SquareHome for her phone are:
    1. As you noticed, I put gray tiles offset slightly to give a 3D look. In fact, if you can see closely, the gray tiles are slightly transparent to give more of the 3D look. I know the "flat" look is popular now, but I'm not the type of person who wants to be like everyone else.
    2. As you may notice, there is quite a bit of space between the tiles to be able to show more of the background. The current max in SquareHome is 200 and would be too small to recreate this screen.
    3. The position as shown in this screen capture is the default home screen position. I actually have some tiles above (and obviously below) what is shown. The tiles above are for quick access, like contacts. So it would be great if I could specify which row in SquareHome is the default position.
    4. The Home button returns to the home position. It would be great if the Back button can do the same.

    Keep up the great work!

    1. Thank you for the suggestion. 1 and 2 can be done by a new theme for SquareHome. I will try to make it. And I will consider the other suggestions.
      Thanks.

    2. I thought I already wrote a reply, but since I wrote it from my phone, perhaps I did something wrong. I wanted to thank you for the consideration. I really enjoy SquareHome and will show it off to as many friends and colleagues as I can.

By the way, as I would like to use SquareHome on all of my devices, I would also like to use it on Android devices hooked up to my TV (ie, devices running standard Android, not GoogleTV/AndroidTV). However, I noticed SquareHome does not recognize the (arrow) navigation keys (D-pad)... so it does not allow me to navigate to apps using those keys. I dislike trying to use a mouse to navigate on a "10-foot user interface". Would it be possible to support navigating using navigation keys/D-pad? Thanks!

    3. I'm already considering it too. But it will take some time to be implemented.

    4. Thanks much! While I'm on a roll and you're not tired of suggestions from me yet (or maybe you are!), it would be nice if the scroll wheel works, too. While on the tablet version, the scroll where may have limited use, I am tempted then to try the portrait phone version so that I can more easily scroll. If you consider that there are Android "PCs" out there, people will want to use their scroll wheel when using Android as a desktop computer. In addition, any setting pages, app drawers, etc, which may require scrolling, the scroll wheel comes in handy. Thanks for the consideration!

  3. Thanks! You're FAST! The D-pad navigation works and looks great! I am setting up an Android TV box for a neighbor and will use your launcher on it. (For this Android TV box, the D-pad works better than its mouse capabilities.) Thanks again!

    1. Strange. I thought I posted this but I can't find it, so I could be losing my mind. But anyway, I am using the Mele "Fly Mouse" which is a wireless air mouse... The D-pad works great, but the Enter key doesn't work at all with SquareHome. It works in other apps like Settings and Google Play Store, but not with SquareHome. I used a keyevent app, and one unique thing I found was that when I press the Enter key on the Mele remote, it only seems to provide the KeyUp event for code=66, not the corresponding KeyDown event. I have no idea why that is, but somehow other apps recognize this... Is there any way you can recognize the way the Mele Fly Mouse works? Or at least make it configurable? As I want to use this for an Android stick for my TV, I plan to use the Mele Fly Mouse as the remote. Thanks in advance for the consideration!

  4. Great work. I like the new updates especially the ability to edit tile labels. Can I make sure suggestions for the next update?

    1. Ability to increase tile size up to 200% or 250% for those who want really big icons. 150% max is big but can be bigger.

    2. Option to align text on some forms to center. For example 'next event' 'today' and 'time' forms text is right aligned. Option to align center or left align would be nice similar to date/time Form.

    3. Fix bug on next event form. It doesn't display some calendar items. Not sure why.

    4. Preinstalled apps have no image in auto image form. Please fix to use stock icon if does not find Web store icon.

    5. Allow applying a style to fixed widget. Now it is only transparent.

  5. Not sure when this started happening, but when I use Japanese for a group label, it shows the first character as two diamonds as if it is not recognizing it as a Japanese character. I don't believe this happened when I first installed SquareHome.Tablet.

By the way, if you're looking for additional projects, what about a SquareHome inspired lock screen? We would be able to define tiles on the left side which we drag over to the right to open that app immediately. I'm currently using Cover lock screen, but I would be just as happy having a SquareHome look and feel for my lock screen, too. (And it would be cool to get the OK Google enabled from the lock screen.)

    1. It's a font issue. Try to change the font file.
I could not find a technically perfect way to develop the lock screen. All third party lock screen apps are not working like the stock one. If Android framework will fully support the API for the lock screen, I will consider to develop it.

    2. Thanks for the tip... I don't think that was it though: (1) when typing in the characters, there are no problems, (2) the characters display ok initially, (3) it seems only after restarting the tablet that there are character issues, (4) the group label I was trying to enter was 日本語. When I added 日本語 at the end of a label called Maps, there was no problem. (5) I found a workaround that if I type in the characters 勉強 日本語, everything displays ok... I haven't had time to play around anymore since I found a workaround, but if I notice any other pattern about the problem, I'll let you know.

  6. (I thought I already posted this but apparently not...) A couple of more suggestions to make SquareHome even more incredible than it already is.

Since I'm not an Apple iOS fan, I don't know if this is an iOS feature, but I like placing a gap between the tiles to see the background. You could use the accelerometer to tell when the phone is being tilted and then slightly move the background. It would give the home screen a 3D type of effect.

Another feature would be to allow horizontal scrolling where appropriate. If you look at the latest The Weather Channel app, in general, everything scrolls vertically. However, there are some rows like the 10-day forecast where you can scroll horizontally. I'd like to do this, for example, a specific row is a contact type of row, so I might have phone, SMS, Gmail, Contacts, Skype, Whats App etc all in the same row...

I'm not exactly sure how to implement this effect in the tablet version, though...

Anyway, keep up the great work!

  9. Thank you.
Perhaps this is the best launcher for TV boxes.

Can you implement the following functions:
    1. When operating the d-pad, there are widgets that can not hover. Can you add the settings for these widgets to add the forced focus and the action when you press the d-pad on this widget.
    2. For the third-party widgets we can change only the background color. Please add the ability to assign individual background picture, as it is now implemented in the tiles apps.
    3. The ability to assign for folders their own wallpaper.
    4. Now the widget is automatic installed on the center of the tile. It would be convenient centering widget in the tile by user.
    5. Animated background for titles.

    Thanks

  10. I use to be able to align bottom edges of several apps, now I can't see how they snap to each other.

Also can't seem to add space between icon and text on contacts page. I can do it on apps page, but option to add margin doesn't seem to be there on contacts.

    1. Which launcher these questions are for?

  11. New Total Launcher. I can adjust margin on apps page (in list form) so there's more space between icon and text. But on Contacts page the text is right up against the icon (also 1 column list). Sample:
    https://db.tt/QNKapW7Q
    https://db.tt/WEuGd6Tn

Only other issue I have is transition from last page to 1st page, doesn't match what transitions are set for (infinite scroll). Otherwise a great improvement over SS (especially transparent bar options).

    1. It is because the photo is fully filled in contacts but the app icon is not. Generally, the app icons has its own margins. Anyway, I will give some left margin for the text.
The page transition issue: This is the best implementation currently. But I'm finding a better solution and believe I will.

    2. Thanks. One other problem I have occasionally, swiping a gesture needs to be more sensitive; I sometimes have to swipe 2 or 3 times. I'm really liking this upgrade!

  13. Hi

    1) Can you please update the notification monitor. It had a bug. It is showing new notification badges on the app icon, but when I read the new messages, the badge does not return to zero. It keeps showing unread numbers even though I have opened the app and read the messages.

    1) I suggested almost a year ago to involve the option to increase the size of icons more than 150%. Still had not been done. Can you make out possible to increase icon size up to 200% or 300%

Seems like this app is not being updated regularly.

    2. Nice to hear you are still working on it! My opinion still stands. It is the best launcher for Android! I think the launcher is consistent with Google's Material Design. Some may say that Material Design is flat, but I would disagree. The + button definitely has a shadow to it, Here are some suggestions I made which I hope you will consider:

      * Allow a way to add shadow to the tiles. Over an image, this would provide a 3D effect.
      * Allow a tile to be specified as the home tile. This allows tiles to be placed above or below the home position.
      * Allow the Back button to go to the home tile. With enough presses, the Back button should be able to return to the same spot as the Home button.
      * Allow tiles to be added beyond the screen edge, left or right. This would allow a specific row to have many more tiles. Just as an example, I could design a row as a contact row, but perhaps with 3-4 tiles across, that's only 3-4 contacts. However, if you allow extra tiles to the right or left, then when I am on that row, I can scroll that specific row left or right to see additional contacts. As an example, I could have additional work contacts on the left and additional personal contacts on the right. This would be consistent with Google Now where if you look up an actor, when it displays the movies (posters) for that actor, you can scroll horizontally to see additional movies for that actor.

I am trying to put Square.Home on all my devices and family's devices. While you allow ignore the tile menu, I wish there was an added option to treat a long press like a short press. My mom at 82 years old is not too adept with her smart phone and is often pressing the tiles too long, so she gets confused why nothing happens.

Also, I wonder if you could support floating bubbles in your launcher? That is, the apps/shortcuts (even widgets?) could appear as bubbles and be moved anywhere on the screen. It would be great (possible?) to have the option whether each bubble appears always (no matter which app is on the screen) or only while the home screen is up.

    3. Thank you for the suggestions. Some of them will be accepted in the upgrade.

    4. Thanks! I like now that the long key press can be ignored. I think this will help out my mom. (Actually, it would be nice if we could define the long key press behavior, such as bring up menu, launch app, or ignore...)

Also, I know you worked on the D-pad improvements, but it seems they were not included on SquareHome.Phone. Now you may ask why would I need it on SquareHome.Phone... It's because I just got the Otium 2015 Android flip phone for my mom. It has a D-pad and it would be easier for her to navigate than using the touch screen. D-pad works a little bit but I can't tell where the focus is, and the focus only seems to be on widgets because when I hit the select key, one of the widget on the home screen opens.

And while I'm at it... It would be nice if we can select the highlighting behavior. Currently, you add a gray-ish overlay to the selected tile. Since I add blank space between the tiles, the selected tile could actually have a border. It would be nice if each possible tile color could have a corresponding "bright" version of its color which is slightly larger than the normal size. For example, when an orange tile is selected, the tile becomes bright orange with the tile growing in size a little bit in order to emphasize which tile is selected.

In fact, again, perhaps you could add a type of 3D effect (by then including a grayish shadow) to show that this tile has jumped out a bit.

One thing, though, is that my mom is leaving Thursday. I'm sure it may be impossible for you to have the D-pad available on the SquareHome.Phone by Thursday, but would be nice if this were possible. I can set it up on her phone though that SquareHome.Phone will receive an automatic update, although I don't know if this would cause her to select which program should be her home screen.

Ohhh, by the way, it may be impossible but on the supplied launcher with the phone, if you are on the home screen and you press one of the number keys, it automatically launchers the dialer app PLUS it includes the number pressed as the first number to be dialed. Not sure if you could do the latter, but it would be nice if you could include a shortcut key for each keypress. Maybe I can find an app for that.

And by the way, you probably understood what I meant by floating bubbles... But I found an app which can launch apps with a floating button. It is called Home Button - Virtual Button by 쪼. However, so far, he only supports one button and no apps. I wouldn't mind if the button were only available on the launcher, but I can see the value when it is available outside of the launcher, too.
